Making macadamia nut butter is the simplest thing if you have a food processor, or Vitamix. The key to making it is to be patient. You do not need to add any extra oil. As the nuts blend, they release their oils and will become very liquid. Because macadamia nuts do not have any skins on them, they blend easily and make for a very smooth butter with a great mouth-feel.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup macadamia nuts
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Place the macadamia nuts in a small roasting pan and place in the oven.   - I used my convection at that temperature, it took 7 minutes once at temperature for the nuts to be roasted. Shake them at about 4 minutes and turn the pan around if your oven does not heat evenly.
  3. Let cool for a few minutes, - you don't want them too hot, but not fully cool either as the oils release more easily when warm.
  4. Place the nuts with the sea salt in the food processor and process for about 5 - 8 minutes. The longer you process them the creamier they get.
  5. If you want to make a chocolate version, toss in about 1/8 cup of our chocolate chips and agin the heat from the nuts will have the chips melting and blending up super easily!
  6. Pour into a jar, and store in the fridge. Like most natural butters this is quite liquid and will separate. I find it easiest to make small quantities more frequently so it's easier to stir it up before each use.
